Blogging in Support of Tibet
08 April 2008
"All that is needed for the triumph of evil is for a good man to do nothing."

I have been thinking about Tibet recently, prompted by events in the news and the heartfelt words of a fellow blogger.
My thoughts led me to think how I might be able to help, I wondered if there was some peaceful action I could take and I visited the website of the Government of Tibet in Exile. There I found a whole page dedicated to ways people can help by drawing attention to the country's plight through letter writing.
It seemed a good idea, to write a letter to my MP but I knew that if I eventually managed to sit down and write one it would probably end up behind the pottery chicken in my kitchen waiting forever for me to drive to the post office and mail it.
So I came up with the idea of 'Blogging in Support of Tibet'. A simple idea really - displaying the flag of Tibet in a post on my blog and standing up to be counted.
In doing this, I hope that my fellow bloggers would adopt the idea also - I know that many of you have already taken the lead by posting about the protests that have taken place and the forthcoming Olympic Games.
One person cannot change the world but doing something is better than doing nothing.
~Please let me know if you blog in support of Tibet and I will link your blog to those who are Standing Up To Be Counted. Thank you ~Labels: Blogging, Blogging in Support of Tibet, Tibet

Hi Milady. Thank you for this post, I think my post was too hasty, I was angry. I agree with you, eventually something good can be done by the silent majority. Lets all display this flag and support the Tibetian cause peacefully.

Ghosty - You post was passionate - I admire that greatly :-D
Ghost Particle posted at 10:43 PM
Milady :) I'm...''still in an euphoric state, all the shouting at the restaurant just now..."
Ghost Particle posted at 10:44 PM
I have posted the flag it on my sidebar Milady.

Fantastic, Milady! I've always had a special place in my heart for Tibet and would love to go there someday. Ask Eli how often I've asked him if we could go to Llasa. LOL. I got to go to a Tibetan restaurant once and was so excited! I love China for lots of reasons, but this situation is absolutely heartbreaking. I hope someday I can hear the Dalai Lama speak. Thank you for this post!

Melissa - I have always had a deep respect for the Dalai Lama and Tibet.
I LOVE China also, I think it stemmed from the beautiful Cheongsams my mother let me dress up in when I was a child.
Alok - Exactly. Thank you :-D

with all the corruption associated with the 'olympics', i'm not surprised the 'games' were awarded to the prc...
i do laud your stand with tibet, though

I like how you end your piece. That sentence is so true. And the quote at top as well. A worthy cause, I'll look into it more. I so far don't have much background in what is going on.
Miladysa posted at 5:21 PM
Thanks Charles :-D
I'm currently reading Sword of Talera - you reeled me in completely with the introduction!
I would have had it finished by now but it's the half term Spring break here so little time to sit down and read :-D

This weekend I was just wondering if I was doing enought with my "life" - with helping others and all of the things that we are put on this earth to do. I'm not sure of the answer, which is disturbing - and am going to look into this suggestion, and sentiment more.
Thank you!

Milady I can be a quarter Blue just for you, coz I still need to keep half Scouse and quarter my home state football team :)

Im wathcing the san fransisco torch relay right now...it is turning into a farce, theyve shortened the route and cancelled the closing ceremony there. And theres like thousands of police! and together with Pro Tibetian brothers n sisters in peaceful protests.
Apparently SFran is full of chinese americans and there are skirmishes among them and China.
All I can say is
Stop the Killing, Free Tibet.

Miladysa - Thank you thank you thank you!
I'm so glad you did this post. I'm right now extremely mad at our President for not sticking up for Tibet and going through with supporting China. Most of Congress is against him on this issue. I was really mad today and almost went and joined the protesters.
As we speak, there are HUGE protests going on in San Francisco.
I'm going to borrow the flag for a near future post, but I need to calm down and watch my mouth and not swear so much first. I really feel badly for the Tibetan people, and have utmost respect for the Dali Lama.

ZS - THANK YOU!
I am sure every action - however small - thing makes a difference in the long run :-D

This is great, I am positive that bloggers can make a difference!
When we made a blog-chain about "violence against women" both politicians and the news engaged in our chain, in radio, tv and news papers, a big surprise! That made a difference, even if it was a tiny one - it was a difference ;-)
I will dig deeper into this subject "Support Tibet", and see what I can come up with and link back to You. I think maybe, in this upcoming weekend!
Excellent performance!
Miladysa posted at 1:38 PM
anna-lys - Brilliant!
Thank you :-D
I am going to link to everyone to displays this flag :-D
SzélsőFa posted at 8:43 PM
That's a great idea, I'd like to join. What am I to do?
But all the while I doubt that beside a common 'prayer' bloggers can do anything.
Miladysa posted at 8:58 PM
That's brilliant SzélsőFa - Thank you!
Just include Tibet in post on your blog or if you prefer post their flag.
I'll add you to this list and THANK YOU! x

Hello Miladysa. Very serious topic here and I want to linger and discuss with you. I will find time this weekend to post the flag on my blog. I am swamped at work and now have to rest...By the way, there is a lot we can do. China has flooded the markets with their goods because of cheap labor and sometimes we have no choice because our country has stopped manufacturing these products BUT we can STOP BUYING any food PROCESSED IN CHINA...It's not cheap if we pay with our health.
