What a Load of Old Tripe!
07 January 2009

Political Correctness is driving me up the wall! I am absolutely sick to the back teeth of politicians, bureaucrats and potty flaming councils! If I had a weekly Fkucwit like Baino the award without doubt would go to the morons at Lewes District Council in Sussex.

Are you ready for this one? Make sure you are seated... here we go!

The Fkucwits in Lewes have decided that they are going to clean up their rude street names such as "Juggs Lane" and get rid of "aesthetically unsuitable" names such as Gaswork Road and Coalpit Lane!

Now for those of you who do not understand some of our rather quaint English words, dialects, slangs and phrases the people of Lewis once referred to fish baskets as juggs and so Juggs Lane translates to Fish Basket Lane. With me so far? Have I offended anyone?

'Juggs' can also sometimes be used to refer to ladies breasts, other terms being boobs, chesticles, bacon bits and a hundred or so others.

The great minds in Lewes have come to the conclusion that Juggs Lane must be offensive and therefore they need to rename it in politically correct terms! Heavens knows how much this is going to cost despite the fact that we are in the midst of a financial recession!

In their efforts not to offend these nambypamby barmpots have offended me - not that I count because I am one of the majority who happen to love our British culture and want to see it preserved!

Places are named after events, landmarks and local people amongst other things. Place names are part of our local history and culture and in my opinion they should be protected.

As much as I accept that it might be almost impossible to arrange a delivery to Butt Hole Lane in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire and Tumbledown Dick in Oxford you can always move!

Anyone offended by this post best bog off as we say (until the day we are politically corrected) in Lancashire!

    bollocks!! leave em' names be...

we Indians are better, we name most of the streets after all our dead people...no one wants to offend the dead. so the name stays!

Sorry, I misread that at first, I thought it was Lewes...their football ground is called Dripping Pan Lane, sure offensive to people who can't control their bladder...

Sign me up, 'cause I'm with you, Milady! Those names are what make a place a place, in my book. Here in my state we have towns called Intercourse, Blue Ball, and Mount Joy, despite being in a very conservative area! :D They did change the name of a college in the U.S. recently from Beaver to something else I don't even know. Ha! Here's to Juggs and Coalpit and Gasworks!

I'll never forget several years ago when there was this brewhaha over a politician who said, "niggardly" and was raked across the coals over it--all because the word contained similar letters to an offensive word.

In Florida recently, a billboard was airbrushed to cover MALE wrestlers' nipples so as not to offend.

Maybe they'll change Jugs Road to Mommybags Lane. That's much nicer.

count me in your corner milady...

i just may move to DILDO, newfoundland, or HAIRY HILL, alberta, in protest GRRRRRRR

...and yes, we have other good names here, as well

Yeah, I'm with you - that's just total insanity. One wonders what a feast they would have with Blackadder's Dunny on the Wold!
One of our cities has the Zulu name Ethekweni - which apparently means place of the bull's testicle...because of the shape of the bay... And it's recently reverted TO that name!

Hmm, word veri for today is aptwrod, yep some very apt words indeed...

    Nachi - LOL Yeah :D

Looks like you lot have your heads screwed on right :D

Miles = LOL - There's quite a few football grounds with bazzing names :D

Melissa - Ohhh I LOVE those names. We have a lot of Blue Balls in these parts too.

I think that place names are such an overlooked treasure. We have some absolute crackers around here.

There's a familiar trend to rename pubs too and it really bugs me no end.

Avery - Wrestlers nipples? Unbelieveable! I mean what is wrong with these people?

Mommybabgs is great - do you know I think there must be more words for 'boozookers' in the English language than any other part of the anatomy :D

    Wolfie - Dildo? LMAO

People should be able to see the humour in these names if nothing else :D

    Hairy Hill - *snigger*

Vanilla - Dunny on the Wold - I LOVE Blackadder - I like the Great War episodes the best :D

I just know I am going to use "Ethekweni" in conversation some day. It's stored away waiting ;D

OK you lot - why didn't someone point out there's a porn star named April "Fish Baskets"?

You wouldn't believe the pond life that's arrived at this post :D

LOL and nachis wisdom...its so true isnt it, we have dead people streets everywhere :)

i can sense an angry Milady here, and you are a good citizen in writing this, there might not be a petition to stop it, but there is always the awareness of not repeating it or not letting it. :)

Ghosty this is what you call a 'Rant Post':D

My green eyes were flashing when I wrote this. I can have a hot temper sometimes. I see a read mist and whoosh! I am not dangerous at times like this though.

It is when I go all quite, when I am silent and I grow cold that I am most dangerous...

    *giggle*

    a silent killer...grrrr...Milady :)

but i just want you NOT to be angry coz ur a good friend who must always smile.

let the dumbos brand the world their way, they can erase everything but history :)

remember, life does not need a thesis, it just need living it :)

True True Ghosty - thank you for the reminder :D

Sounds like we'd come up with in the Southern U.S.
  • Blogger Miladysa posted at 11:42 AM
Is that a good or a bad thing Sidney?
  • Blogger Vesper posted at 11:54 AM
I'm with you, Miladysa. I always find the so-called "political correctness" false and offensive.
  • Blogger Deb posted at 7:23 PM
I also find the political correctness trend false and offensive. Life is not PC, and humans are certainly not perfect. What I really find offensive here in the USA, are law suits filed on the basis of political incorrectness.

Anyway, I love all those *interesting* street and town names. They are one of the many things that lighten things up a bit!
  • Blogger L.A. Mitchell posted at 4:25 AM
    Bacon bits? LOL. That's a first :)

I say keep them, too. They are a part of history.
  • Blogger Lana Gramlich posted at 5:35 AM
What a load of crap. Bollocks, I say!
  • Blogger Jeevan posted at 12:25 PM
Some names carried for heritages, when they turn it seems miserable and insignificant is true. I wish in politics we don’t get blind and there is nothing wrong at same time when some names make hesitate. Those and many names are new and lack of understanding even a dictionary could not. Get calm dear, wish politician be peoples friendly.
  • Blogger Miladysa posted at 12:47 PM
    Vesper - Thanks :D

Deb - "They are one of the many things that lighten things up a bit!"

    Exactly :D

LA - Yeah, cockeny rhyming slang - bacon bits rhymes with (....) Now I would only use that word in regard to a bird, the feather kind of course! LOL

    Lana - ROFL - Go girl! :D

Jeevan - "Those and many names are new and lack of understanding even a dictionary could not"

    True :D

Psst... I'll tell you a little secret, I wrote this as we English say 'tongue in cheek'. Don't tell the others though - especially that Ghosty - they like me to have a good rant now and again ;D

    LOL.
I remember that once I was shocked when someone took offense when I called him "bugger". Apparently, it has a really nasty meaning too. But we always mean "despicable", don't we?
